Research topic

Study of carbon and nitrogen resources management in ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) as a response to a contrasted biotic and abiotic environment.

Regulation of the storage and mobilization of carbon and nitrogen resources

This regulation is assessed on source tissues (leaf blades and leaf sheaths  of mature leaves) and sink tissues (elongating leaf bases) in order to bring better knowledge on the fine management mechanisms under abiotic stress (nycthemeral cycle,…) and biotic stress (total or partial defoliation, interaction with phyllospheric bacteria…) at the levels :

  • molecular (via the expression of indicator genes of plant metabolism like sucrose transporters (LpSUT1 and LpSUT2)
  • metabolic (via the anaysis of several compounds like amino acids, proteins, fructans, sucrose…)
  • tissular and whole plant (via isotopic tracers like 13C and 15N and via confocal and electronic microscopy techniques)
